Scott Nehs

1) Scott Nehs has been promoted to senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA).

During his three years as deputy general counsel and assistant corporate secretary, Nehs was responsible for all of the personnel and budget decisions in the legal and governance division. He was also in charge of managing the nationwide antitrust class action litigation that began in 2012 and is still pending against BCBSA and each Blue Plan.

Nehs previously served as senior vice president of legal and government affairs for PepsiAmericas, a division of PepsiCo and the world’s second largest bottler of Pepsi branded products. Nehs also held the positions of chief compliance officer and chief privacy officer. He began his career at Chicago-based law firm Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Northwestern University and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Michael Bisignano

2) CA Technologies has named Michael Bisignano as general counsel and executive vice president. He reports to CEO Mike Gregoire.

Most recently, Bisignano served as general counsel and chief legal officer of Blackboard, a global technology company, where he oversaw critical aspects of the $1.64 billion transaction that took Blackboard private in 2011.

Earlier in his career, he was general counsel at Online Resources Corp, a software and software-as-a-service technology provider. He was also special counsel at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo. He started his legal career as an attorney in the Washington DC offices of Millbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCoy.  Before becoming a lawyer, he worked as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.

Bisignano earned a JD degree with honors from Harvard Law School, a BA in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in economics and finance from The Wharton School of Business.

James Moriarty

3) James Moriarty has joined Chesapeake Utilities as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.  He manages the company's internal legal function and outside counsel.

Moriarty has more than 25 years of experience representing leading companies on diverse energy projects. He was previously a partner at Locke Lord and Fulbright & Jaworski, both international law firms with offices in Washington, DC.  His experience includes representing companies before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and providing legal advice to interstate gas pipelines and local natural gas distribution companies.

He earned a BA degree from Rutgers University and received his JD from the Catholic University of America School of Law, and his Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center.  Mr. Moriarty is a member of the American Bar Association and the Energy Bar Association and served on the Board of Regents of The Catholic University of America. 

Steven Reich

4) Deutsche Bank has appointed Steven Reich as general counsel for the Americas, effective in April.

He is leaving Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Field, where he has been a partner in the firm’s New York practice, handling white collar cases and congressional investigations.

Before joining Akin Gump in 2013, Reich served as US associate deputy attorney general from 2011, advising then-deputy attorney general Jim Cole and attorney general Eric Holder while helping to manage the Justice Department’s often contentious relationship with Congress.

Prior to working at the Justice Department, Reich was a partner at law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips for 10 years. In the 1990s, he was a senior associate White House counsel, taking care of the hot-button independent counsel and congressional investigations involving President Bill Clinton. Earlier in his career, Reich worked as a congressional staffer and as an assistant federal public defender for the District of Maryland.

He received his law degree from Columbia University in 1986 after earning his undergraduate degree at Columbia in 1983.

Craig Glidden

5) Craig Glidden has joined General Motors Company as executive vice president and general counsel. He leads a team of attorneys who are integrated into GM’s regional and functional teams in more than 30 countries.

Before moving to GM, Glidden was executive vice president and chief legal officer LyondellBasell. Prior to joining the plastics and chemicals maker in August 2009, he served as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. He was in private law practice before  joining Chevron Phillips Chemical.

Glidden received a BA from Tulane University in 1980, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained a JD with high honors from Florida State University in 1983, where he served as editor-in-chief and managing editor of the Florida State University Law Review.

Glidden is licensed to practice law in Texas and Florida. He is a member and past chair of The General Counsel Forum and serves on the board of the Houston Bar Foundation.

Jean Weng

6) Voya Financial has promoted Jean Weng to senior vice president, deputy general counsel, and corporate secretary. She will continue to report to executive vice president and chief legal officer Bridget Healy.

Weng joined Voya Financial in September 2014 as deputy general counsel and assistant secretary. She began her legal career in 2002 at Davis Polk & Wardwell, working first as an associate, and then as counsel, in the capital markets group. During her tenure in private practice, Weng focused on corporate governance issues and capital markets transactions for financial institutions in the US, Canada, China, and Brazil.

Weng attended The Juilliard School in New York and holds an MA degree in musicology from Columbia University. She also received a JD from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. In 2014, the New York Times Magazine recognized her as a ‘rising star’ among the top women attorneys in New York.
