Micheal Helfer will become the company’s chairman.
Citibank, a global financial services firm has tapped Rohan Weerasinghe to serve as the company’s general counsel and corporate secretary.
Helfer has been Citi’s general counsel and corporate secretary for nine years and has now moved up the ranks to the vice chairman role.
Weerasinghe has over 35 years of experience as a litigator and is currently senior partner at the international law firm Shearman & Sterling. He advised and represented financial institutions and corporations on issues including corporate governance, complex transactions, IPOs and debt issues.
Citi’s business unit, which consists of general counsels, regional general counsels, and corporate deputy general counsels, will report to Weerasinghe.
Prior to joining Citigroup in 2003, Helfer was president of Strategic Investments and chief strategic officer at Nationwide Insurance. Helfer has been a partner and chairman of the Management Committee of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, clerked for Chief Judge David Bazelon (D.C. Cir.), and served as counsel for the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments of the US Senate Judiciary Committee, according to Citi.
Both appointments will be effective June 1.
