Energy firm Exelon has promoted Thomas O’Neill to the position of senior vice president and general counsel, effective January 1.
In his new role, O’Neill serves as the top legal adviser to Exelon’s senior management and oversees the company’s legal and corporate governance departments. He replaced Darryl Bradford, who retired at the end of 2016 after a 13-year career with Exelon, the company says. O’Neill reports to William Von Hoene, Exelon’s senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer.
Exelon is a Fortune 100 energy company with the largest number of utility customers in the US and 2015 revenue of $34.5 billion, according to the firm.
O’Neill was formerly senior vice president of energy & regulatory policy and general counsel at Exelon utility ComEd. In that position, he played a key role in the development and passage of two pieces of Illinois legislation: the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act of 2011 and the Future Energy Jobs Bill, passed in 2016, the company says. Before joining ComEd, O’Neill served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Exelon Transmission Company, and held leadership roles with Exelon Nuclear Partners and Exelon Nuclear.
‘Tom’s broad knowledge of the business and his strategic approach and proven leadership will be great assets to the company as we continue to lead the transformation of the energy industry through a focus on innovation, technology and investment in smart energy infrastructure,’ says Chris Crane, president and CEO of Exelon, in a statement.
