Nancy Washington started work with New Jersey Resources on Monday this week as senior vice president and general counsel. She reports to chairman and CEO Laurence Downes.
In her new role, Washington is responsible for developing and directing the firm’s corporate legal function and overseeing corporate compliance. According to the company, New Jersey Resources is a member of the Fortune 1000 that, through its subsidiaries, provides natural gas and clean energy services, including transportation, distribution, asset management and home services.
‘We are very pleased to welcome Nancy Washington to our team,’ Downes says in a statement. ‘Nancy is a talented, well-respected leader and an accomplished corporate attorney and litigator. I am confident she will play a key role as we continue to grow our business and meet our customers’ expectations.’
Washington filled a vacancy left by Mariellen Dugan, who joined New Jersey Natural Gas – New Jersey Resources’ largest subsidiary – as senior vice president and COO last October. Dugan joined New Jersey Resources as general counsel in 2005.
Washington previously served as senior vice president and chief litigation counsel for Livingston, New Jersey-based CIT Group. Before working with CIT, she was a partner at Saiber, focusing on commercial litigation and corporate matters. A CIT spokesperson did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
CIT earlier this year appointed Paul Tufaro to serve as executive vice president and chief compliance officer (CorporateSecretary.com, 27/1). He had spent the previous six years at Citigroup, where he most recently served as the global head of corporate compliance.
