Carol Wooding to take over general counsel duties from Thomas Sexton
National Futures Association’s (NFA) board of directors approved the appointment of Carol Wooding as vice president, general counsel and secretary at its February 16 meeting.
Wooding will take over the general counsel’s duties from Thomas Sexton, who will serve as NFA’s president and CEO from March 1. Chicago-based NFA is the self-regulatory organization (SRO) for the US derivatives industry, including on-exchange traded futures, retail off-exchange foreign currency and over-the-counter derivatives.
Wooding began her legal career in 1991 as an NFA staff attorney and was later promoted to assistant general counsel in 1998, then to associate general counsel in 2010.
‘Carol has a deep understanding of the regulatory issues facing the derivatives markets,’ Sexton says in a statement. ‘She has years of experience developing rules and implementing effective regulatory programs to ensure market integrity and enhance customer protection.’
Sexton will succeed Daniel Roth, NFA’s current president and CEO, who announced his retirement in May 2016. At that time, NFA’s board authorized the formation of a search committee to find a replacement for Roth, chaired by board chair Michael Dawley and comprising existing board members and other individuals with knowledge of the derivatives industry and NFA’s regulatory role, according to the SRO.
Sexton joined NFA in 1991 as an attorney and was promoted to assistant general counsel in 1998, then to general counsel and secretary in 2001.
