Pernix Therapeutics Holdings has hired Ken Piña as senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer, effective January 6.
Piña reports to John Sedor, chairman and CEO, and serves as the company’s senior in-house counsel, overseeing legal and compliance, and establishing legal and compliance strategies. Pernix is a specialty pharmaceutical business with a focus on acquiring, developing and commercializing prescription drugs primarily for the US market. It specializes in pain and central nervous system (CNS) conditions.
Piña was previously a founder and managing principal of consulting firm Core Risks, which was acquired in 2012 by Jardine Lloyd Thompson. His practice focused on corporate compliance and ethics programming, enterprise risk and crisis management program development and litigation support.
Andrew Tait, a founding principal of Core Risks, did not respond to a request for comment.
Before joining Core Risks, Piña served as senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary for Henkel Corporation, a consumer products and specialty chemicals company. Before that, he worked at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals, where he held positions including general counsel and secretary.
‘Ken brings to Pernix extensive legal and life sciences experience with a notable record of achievement in developing and leading global legal and business initiatives for pharmaceutical companies,’ Sedor says in a statement.
‘I look forward to supporting Pernix’s continuing efforts to enhance its operations and bring important pain management and CNS products to patients and physicians,’ Piña says.Â
