Viacom is promoting Christa D’Alimonte to executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective April 15.

D’Alimonte is currently senior vice president, deputy general counsel and assistant secretary at Viacom. She joined the company in 2012 from Shearman & Sterling, where she was deputy practice group leader of the law firm’s global mergers and acquisitions group. While there, she represented Viacom on a variety of corporate matters, according to the company.

In her new role, D’Alimonte will oversee the Viacom global legal function and succeed Michael Fricklas, who the company announced last month would be leaving after continuing in his position for a transition period. A request for comment from Fricklas was referred to a company spokesperson, who declined to comment beyond a note to employees from Viacom president and CEO Bob Bakish announcing D’Alimonte’s promotion but not referring to Fricklas.

Fricklas has been general counsel and secretary of Viacom and its predecessors since 1998, after starting with the company in 1993 as deputy general counsel.

Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom, says in a statement, ‘As we look to the exciting months ahead, Christa’s extensive legal knowledge and distinctive understanding of our company and strategic vision uniquely position her to support Viacom as we embark on this period of transformation and growth.’

D’Alimonte says: ‘As the media landscape changes, the role of the law department has never been more critical. I look forward to working closely with leaders across the business to advance Viacom’s creative agenda and position the company for the future.’

In addition, Viacom has named Keyes Hill-Edgar as executive vice president for global business affairs and general counsel of Viacom media networks.

According to the company, he will continue to oversee business and legal affairs for the domestic media networks, and his responsibilities will be broadened to include Viacom international media networks, content distribution and the media networks’ labor, guild and production legal matters.

Viacom’s media networks include Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Spike, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick at Nite, Logo, Channel 5 in the UK and Telefe in Argentina.
