Acer CEO and president has resigned following a dispute with board members over the company's future expansions.
Gianfranco Lanci, president and CEO of Acer, the Taiwanese computer maker, has resigned, the company announced today. Acer’s board of directors approved the resignation this morning.
Lanci will be temporarily replaced by the company’s current chairman, J.T. Wang, who will act as interim CEO.
‘On the company’s future development, Lanci held different views from a majority of the board members, and could not reach a consensus following several months’ of dialog, Acer says. ‘They placed different levels of importance on scale, growth, customer value creation, brand position enhancement, and on resource allocation and methods of implementation.’
In 2009, while Lanci sat at the helm of the company, Acer overtook Dell as the world’s second largest PC maker.
‘Acer needs a period of time for adjustment,’ says Wang. ‘With the spirit of entrepreneurship, we will face new challenges and look to the future with confidence.’
