New collaborative agenda on offer from SCSGP.
Expect a more proactive and collaborative agenda under Ken Bertsch, the newly installed president and CEO of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals (SCSGP). In an exclusive interview with Corporate Secretary, Bertsch says he is out to increase the numbers of his organization’s membership and then motivate members to be more involved. His overall goal is to meet more of the needs of governance professionals.
Ken Bertsch, CEO of SCSGP:
‘We’re trying to get the word out about building membership and we’re trying to work in a better way with the chapters,’ explains Bertsch, as he talks about strengthening relationships between the national office and its local organizations. He also talks about improving relationships between different groups of members within SCSGP.
‘We really should have broader participation among mid-cap and small-cap companies, so we want to figure out ways to do that,’ he says. ‘We know that a lot of our programs have been tailored more toward large-cap companies – there’s a good reason for that and we don’t want to abandon it, but we want to make sure we are meeting the needs of the small and mid-cap companies, too.’
Bertsch also says his organization wants to do more to assist private companies and non-profits. He can’t do it without his members’ help, however. He says he received great feedback at last week’s SCSGP convention in Colorado Springs, but he is open to receiving more.
Creating programs that work for everyone requires a collaborative approach, much like working with board members to craft a winning corporate strategy.
