TPG has recruited Bradford Berenson as general counsel. He is due to start work with the alternative asset management firm on March 6 and will be based in San Francisco.
According to a TPG statement on his recruitment, Berenson is currently vice president and senior counsel for litigation and legal policy at General Electric (GE), responsible for litigation, government and internal investigations, compliance and legal policy worldwide. A spokesperson for TPG declined to comment on who Berenson will replace as general counsel or who he will report to.
‘Brad has been a terrific partner and leader on some of our toughest matters over the past four years and we’ll all miss his passion and excellence. We are considering internal and external candidates with an eye toward naming a successor in the coming weeks,’ says Alex Dimitrief, senior vice president and general counsel at GE.
Before joining GE in 2012, Berenson was a partner at Sidley Austin in Washington, DC, and earlier served as associate counsel to the US president in the White House counsel’s office from 2001 to 2003. In that role, he was engaged in judicial selection, congressional oversight and policy initiatives.
‘TPG is pleased to engage a general counsel with the expertise and insight that Brad brings to the position,’ says Jon Winkelried, co-CEO of TPG.
According to TPG, the firm has more than $74 billion of assets under management and invests across a wide range of asset classes, including private equity, growth venture, real estate, credit and public equity.Â
