It wasn't only Ensco's decision last year to separate the CEO and chairman roles that helped it take home the Corporate Governance Award for Best Overall Corporate Governance - International ) in 2014. But the move demonstrated that the three-year evaluation and upgrade of its governance policies and practices were not mere window-dressing. Among the other chanes that resulted from the process were establishing a strong board succession procedures, with one of the aims being to appoint more women to the board, and encouraging engagement between shareholders and independent directors
