Food and drug retailer Albertsons Companies has hired Juliette Pryor as executive vice president and general counsel, effective June 15.
Pryor is moving to Albertsons from Cox Enterprises, where she has worked as general counsel and corporate secretary for almost four years. She previously worked at US Foods for 11 years, including serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer.
Before that she was with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, having previously been general counsel and corporate secretary for e.spire Communications and having earlier worked at the US International Trade Commission and IBM.
In her new role, she will head up the company’s corporate governance and compliance functions and handle matters related to financial reporting, M&A, labor and employment, real estate, litigation, data privacy and government affairs.
Albertsons operates stores under 20 brands including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s and Acme.
Pryor will succeed Bob Gordon, who is retiring having spent more than two decades with Safeway and Albertsons, collectively. Gordon previously served as chief governance officer and general counsel at Safeway, having joined the company in 1999 from law firm Pillsbury Winthrop.
‘On behalf of our team and the board of directors, I sincerely thank Bob for his contributions to the formative years of Albertsons Companies since the merger in 2015, and for guiding Safeway’s legal team for 15 years prior to that,’ says president and CEO Vivek Sankaran in a statement. ‘Bob has been a tremendous asset to our team, and we wish him well.
‘We are excited to welcome Juliette to our leadership team. [She] brings a solution-oriented mindset to legal matters and her proactive, collaborative approach reflects the way the Albertsons team works. We look forward to benefiting from her extensive experience and deep legal expertise.’Â
