Coherent Corp has recruited Rob Beard as the company’s new chief legal and global affairs officer and corporate secretary.
Beard joined Coherent from Mastercard Incorporated, where also served as chief legal and global affairs officer. According to his LinkedIn profile, he had moved to Mastercard in 2023 having previously spent nine years at Micron Technology. During that time, he held a number of positions, most recently as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
Before moving in-house, Beard was an associate with law firm Shearman & Sterling in London and later an associate with Weil Gotshal & Manges.
At Coherent, Beard succeeds chief legal officer (CLO) Ron Basso, who is retiring. The company has also promoted Marie Batz Martin to become chief compliance officer, reporting to Beard.
Asked about Beard’s successor, a spokesperson for Mastercard says Tiffany Hall is general counsel globally and Tucker Foote is the company’s chief government affairs and policy officer, also globally. According to her LinkedIn profile, Hall was previously general counsel for the Americas at the company.
Coherent’s CEO, Jim Anderson, says in a statement: ‘We are pleased to welcome Rob to Coherent’s leadership team. His broad experience in the semiconductor industry, international policy experience and expertise in business and law make him an excellent partner and counselor to help us unlock Coherent’s full potential.
‘I would like to thank Ron Basso for his leadership as Coherent’s [CLO]. His experience and leadership will ensure a smooth transition and I am grateful for his commitment and continued dedication to the company.’
