Exelon announces legal chief succession

Colette Honorable is taking on a larger role at the utility company

Colette Honorable is taking on an expanded role at Exelon Corp as its next chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary.

Honorable is at present executive vice president for public policy and chief external affairs officer for the company. She will continue leading Exelon’s public policy, legislative and regulatory affairs and corporate-giving work.

Honorable will succeed Gayle Littleton, who is stepping down as executive vice president, CLO and corporate secretary effective January 1, 2025. Littleton will then take on the role of special adviser to the CEO until March 31.

Since joining Exelon in 2023, Honorable has led the utility company’s policy and regulatory affairs work, expanding its advocacy efforts with policy makers, community leaders and partners. She was previously a partner, leader of the energy regulatory group and member of the executive committee at law firm Reed Smith.

Honorable was previously a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from January 2015 to June 2017. She is a past president and chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. She was commissioner and chair of the Arkansas Public Service Commission from 2006 to 2014 and previously held legal and executive roles in state government.

Littleton joined Exelon in 2020 and, among other things, led the transactional and regulatory approvals efforts required for the 2022 separation of Exelon’s generation and retail power business from its utility business. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was previously partner and co-chair of the investigations, compliance and defense practice at law firm Jenner & Block.

Before that, she spent more than 12 years at the US Department of Justice, first as assistant US attorney for the Northern District of Illinois and later in the same position for the Northern District of Florida.

In a LinkedIn post, Littleton says: ‘Feeling much gratitude for the opportunity to lead at Exelon through such significant change, including our separation, and to help position the company for the future. Many thanks to Calvin Butler, the Exelon board, the remarkable leadership team and the incredibly talented and strategic Exelon legal department for the privilege of serving as [CLO].

‘I could not be more thrilled to be turning the reins over to my colleague and friend Colette Honorable, who will be an outstanding legal leader and will help write the next great chapter in our company’s great story.’

Butler, Exelon president and CEO, says in a statement: ‘Gayle Littleton’s leadership and achievements, development of the legal department and dedication to the company have positioned Exelon for the future and I thank her for playing a vital role in the company we are today.

‘Colette Honorable’s expanded role leading Exelon’s legal and federal policy efforts will advance our critical work with stakeholders, advocating for our customers and communities in every jurisdiction we serve.’
