Goldman Sachs has appointed Karen Patton Seymour as a partner and co-general counsel of the firm.
Alongside Greg Palm, Seymour has been recruited to advise Goldman Sachs and have responsibility for all legal matters affecting the firm’s operations worldwide. As of this month she is based in New York and joins the firm’s management committee.
Seymour joins Goldman Sachs from Sullivan & Cromwell, where she was a partner and a member of the law firm’s management committee, specializing in commercial litigation, regulatory enforcement and internal investigations. She has represented individuals and companies in state and federal investigations and proceedings involving allegations such as securities fraud and insider trading, violations of FCPA and money-laundering violations.
A request for comment from Sullivan & Cromwell was not returned immediately.
Before joining Sullivan & Cromwell, Seymour held several roles at the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including chief of the criminal division and chief of the general crimes unit.
