Japanese bank Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) has hired Matt Abrusci as general counsel for the Americas.
In his new role, Abrusci manages legal affairs and board of directors administration related to MUFG’s combined operations in the region. He was previously global head of the capital markets law group of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). Before taking on that role, he was head of the Americas for RBC’s capital markets law group.
Before joining RBC, Abrusci worked at Credit Suisse Securities, most recently as managing director and head of the Americas investment banking and capital markets legal group. He was previously director and counsel for the firm’s high yield capital markets and private placements legal group. Earlier in his career he was director and senior counsel with Merrill Lynch.

MUFG has also recruited Alla Whitston as chief information officer for the Americas. Whitston previously held the same position at Silicon Valley Bank/First-Citizens Bank, leading the global commercial bank and capital divisions and before that was chief technology officer and executive vice president for CIT Group.
