Office Depot has hired David Bleisch as its new executive vice president, chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary.
Bleisch reports to Office Depot CEO Gerry Smith, and will lead the strategic direction of the company’s legal organization and operations, as well as manage regulatory and compliance matters for the company. Bleisch has filled the role vacated by Steve Calkins who was promoted to president of business solutions division in May, according to the company.
Bleisch was previously senior vice president and CLO for the ADT Corporation, where he managed legal, environmental, health and safety, government affairs and corporate governance matters. Earlier in his career, he served in several leadership roles at Tyco International before being appointed vice president and general counsel of Tyco Security Solutions, which comprises ADT Worldwide, Tyco Security Products and Tyco Retail Solutions.
An ADT spokesperson did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
‘David has been a trusted legal adviser for many years and has provided strategic legal solutions to key business issues within the organizations he’s worked for with an outstanding track record,’ Smith says in a statement.
According to Office Depot, the company in 2016 had annual sales of roughly $11 billion, employed around 38,000 associates and operated roughly 1,400 retail stores
