Wireless home audio company Sonos has hired Eddie Lazarus as its new chief legal officer (CLO), effective January 2, 2019.
At Sonos, Lazarus will report directly to CEO Patrick Spence and will be based at the company’s headquarters in Santa Barbara, California. In his new role, he will be responsible for all legal, corporate governance, SEC reporting, government affairs, M&A, regulatory and compliance activities across Sonos’ global operations.
Lazarus will join Sonos from the Tribune Company, where he has served as general counsel since 2013. He had previously served as the chief of staff to the chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from June 2009 to February 2012. At the FCC he oversaw policy development and implementation, strategic planning, communications, legislative and intergovernmental affairs and agency management.
Before working at the FCC, Lazarus was a partner and member of the management committee at law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He is a former federal prosecutor.
According to a spokesperson, Lazarus is succeeding Craig Shelburne. Shelburne was a co-founder of Sonos and CLO until October when he left to become founder and CEO of Shelburne Growth Advisors, according to his LinkedIn profile.
