Tata Global Beverages (TGB) has appointed Mark Boyland as assistant general counsel for its Canada, Americas and Australia region and head of anti-bribery and corruption compliance for the company.Â
The firm, which bills itself as the world’s second-largest tea company, adds that Boyland’s appointment will boost TGB’s focus on compliance, including antitrust/competition and anti-bribery/corruption. He will oversee the company’s compliance program in these areas, and review and evaluate compliance issues within the organization relating to the extra-territorial application of federal laws and regulatory guidance.
Boyland was most recently a principal with Tri-Mark Consulting, and was previously of counsel with law firm DLA Piper, according to his LinkedIn profile. Earlier in his career, he was a US Department of Justice attorney and vice president of legal, risk and regulatory compliance for Benjamin Moore. He has extensive experience implementing risk and compliance initiatives for companies and leading domestic and international investigations, TGB says in a statement.
Boyland’s role will also include ensuring compliance with US rules and regulations and make sure behavior in the company meets the Tata code of conduct, working closely with colleagues in internal audit, legal and HR. It is a new position that brings together in one function a number of roles that already existed within the company. Boyland reports to the general counsel, with access to internal audit and the executive office.
‘Mark’s combination of senior-level public and private sector experience uniquely positions him to lead TGB’s compliance function in this important region and champion the company’s efforts to strengthen its compliance and risk-management functions,’ says L Krishnakumar, TGB’s CFO, in a statement. ‘This is particularly important where they relate to the enforcement of US laws in other countries.’
