Craig Richardson, executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary with Union Pacific Railroad, will retire on March 31, 2025.
In anticipation of the transition, Christina Conlin will join Union Pacific effective December 2 as senior vice president and deputy general counsel.
Richardson has held his current position, in which he oversees all aspects of the company’s legal affairs and leads its claims management team, since December 2020. Before joining Union Pacific in 2016 as associate general counsel, he was principal shareholder at law firm Greenberg Traurig and had been vice president and general counsel of the El Paso Pipeline Group.
Earlier in his career Richardson held various national security positions in the US government.
Conlin is joining Union Pacific having most recently been chief risk officer and associate general counsel with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. In her new role, she will help advance Union Pacific’s safety, service and operational excellence strategy. She will also be steward of legal affairs and provide strategic counsel to the railroad firm’s senior leadership team.
At Goodyear, she has led the company’s legal enterprise risk group, which includes legal oversight for labor and employment, regulatory affairs, environmental, health and safety, compliance and ethics and sustainability reporting. She was previously a partner at Baker McKenzie in the law firm’s international commercial group and held multiple roles at McDonald’s Corporation, including European chief compliance officer.
Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena says in a statement: ‘Craig’s service to Union Pacific and extensive legal expertise helped our company through a time of significant change and transformation. As his retirement date approaches, we are focused on ensuring a smooth transition given the critical role he plays. Christina will be a part of that transition and bring fresh perspectives and insights to our company’s dynamic legal and regulatory landscape.
‘While it is still too soon to congratulate Craig on his retirement just yet, please join me in extending a warm Union Pacific welcome to Christina.’
