Freight transportation services company XPO Logistics has hired Jeff Firestone to become chief legal officer (CLO) of RXO, the planned spin-off of XPO’s brokered transportation platform.
Firestone joins XPO as CLO of the company’s North American transportation division and will head up RXO’s legal organization when the separation is complete. He reports to Drew Wilkerson, who is president of transportation for North America and will become chief executive officer of RXO.
Most recently, Firestone was United Parcel Service’s (UPS) deputy general counsel for regulatory compliance and risk, and earlier was senior vice president for business unit finance. He worked for more than two decades at UPS in positions with senior legal responsibility for governance, compliance, corporate matters, litigation and risk mitigation.
He began his career with law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.
XPO plans to spin off its asset-light brokered transportation platform from its asset-based less-than-truckload business, creating two separate publicly traded companies. The company expects to complete the spin-off in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Wilkerson says in a statement: ‘We’re continuing to build out our C-suite for the planned spin-off with another strong addition to the team. Jeff’s an accomplished leader across multiple legal disciplines, with a deep understanding of the transportation industry. His expertise in cross-functional support for commercial strategies will be a key resource for RXO management.’
