Jamie Gallagher, veteran general counsel and executive vice president at AMC Networks, will retire at the end of the year. The company has launched a search for a successor.
Gallagher joined AMC Networks in 2008 having previously been executive vice president and general counsel for Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. Before that he spent six years at HSN, formerly known as Home Shopping Network, as executive vice president and general counsel. Earlier in his career he was group counsel at American Express Travel Related Services. Before moving in-house he was an associate at Kelley Drye & Warren.
Gallagher is chief legal counsel for AMC Networks and its business units, which include cable TV networks AMC, IFC and SundanceTV and feature film label IFC Films. He is responsible for legal issues at the corporate level and entertainment businesses such as governance, securities, corporate transactions, litigation, compliance, major rights and affiliation agreements and strategic legal planning.
According to AMC Networks’ leadership team, Gallagher has advised the company through major milestones in its development, including going public in 2011, creating AMC Studios – the in-house studio behind the company’s series and franchises such as The Walking Dead – and establishing the company’s streaming portfolio.
Kristin Dolan, CEO of AMC Networks, says in a statement: ‘We are deeply grateful for Jamie’s exceptional leadership and contributions to [the company]. He’s been instrumental in helping guide our business through many milestones as we’ve navigated a dynamic and ever-changing media landscape. I’ll miss his wisdom, good counsel and encyclopedic knowledge derived from his ardent love of books. We wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter.’
