AmTrust Title Insurance Company has promoted Felice Shapiro to become general counsel for AmTrust Title and First Nationwide Title.
In her new role, Shapiro is responsible for all underwriting decisions for both companies and is, according to the company, one of the first female general counsel of a major title insurance underwriter.
Shapiro served most recently as executive vice president and chief underwriter for AmTrust Title and was responsible for overseeing all legal and underwriting decisions for the direct and agency sides of the business. Before joining AmTrust Title in January 2016, she was executive director and counsel of TIRSA, a rating agency for title insurance. She also spent more than 17 years at Old Republic Title Company, where she was senior counsel.
AmTrust Title is a wholly owned subsidiary of AmTrust Financial Services, a Fortune 500 insurer providing specialty property and casualty insurance products, including workers’ compensation, commercial automobile, general liability and extended service and warranty coverage.
‘Felice has made countless contributions to the title insurance industry from her work as president of [the New York State Land Title Association], executive director of TIRSA and now general counsel at one of the leading title insurance underwriters in the industry,’ says AmTrust Title president Jason Gordon in a statement.
‘With more than 35 years of industry experience working for two of the largest title insurance companies in the industry and helping launch AmTrust Title in 2016, she brings significant legal and title insurance expertise to the role. Known as a deal-maker rather than a deal-breaker, Felice brings an innovative legal perspective to the largest real estate transactions, and we look forward to better leveraging her insight to support both AmTrust Title and First Nationwide.’
