Beyond Meat’s board of directors has appointed Teri Witteman as general counsel and secretary, effective May 20.
Witteman is a member of the company’s executive team, responsible for global legal affairs and compliance functions. She reports to president and CEO Ethan Brown.
Beyond Meat creates plant-based meats. The company held its IPO earlier this month, listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
The general counsel position is a new one at the company, a spokesperson said. CFO and treasurer Mark Nelson previously also held the position of secretary, according to the company’s prospectus.
Witteman joined Beyond Meat having most recently been a partner with law firm Musick, Peeler & Garrett in Los Angeles with a focus on SEC compliance, corporate governance and M&A matters.
She has served as outside counsel and C-suite/board adviser to public and private foodservice companies, including serving as corporate secretary of coffee and tea company Farmer Bros Co from 2012 to 2018. She began her career at Latham & Watkins advising clients on corporate finance and M&A.
‘Teri’s extensive legal, SEC compliance, corporate governance and operational experience in the foodservice industry make her a wonderful fit for this position,’ Brown says in a statement. ‘Her expertise is a great match for Beyond Meat’s growth agenda, as we focus on building our brand nationally and globally, while expanding our public-company leadership team.’
