Bombardier picks successor to general counsel

Alain Rondeau will take up position at start of 2019

Plane and train manufacturer Bombardier has picked Alain Rondeau to succeed Daniel Desjardins as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Desjardins will retire from his role on December 31, 2018. He will focus over the next few months on transitioning responsibilities to Rondeau, who will replace him on January 1, 2019. In the meantime, Rondeau has been appointed senior vice president of legal services, effective immediately. He has been working as a consultant for Montreal-based Bombardier for the past year.

Rondeau previously served as vice president, counsel and corporate secretary for Pratt & Whitney Canada for 21 years. Before joining Pratt & Whitney, he practiced corporate and commercial law with Byers Casgrain (now Dentons).

Following his retirement, Desjardins will continue to serve as a special adviser to Bombardier CEO and president Alain Bellemare and will become chair of Bombardier Transportation’s board of directors.

‘We are very excited to welcome Alain to the Bombardier team,’ Bellemare says in a statement. ‘He is a proven leader with extensive experience in corporate governance, transactions, compliance and international trade matters. Alain’s strong global legal experience combined with his deep industry knowledge make him an excellent addition to Bombardier’s senior leadership team as we continue to execute our growth strategy.

‘I am extremely grateful for Daniel’s unwavering support and the wise counsel he has provided to me, our board of directors and our senior management team. Daniel played a critical role in executing many of the successful strategic transactions supporting the company’s turnaround.’
