Broadband and cable operator Charter Communications has recruited Jamal Haughton as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective November 6.
Haughton will succeed Rick Dykhouse who earlier this year announced his intention to retire. Dykhouse will remain as executive counsel to president and CEO Chris Winfrey and to help support the transition.
Haughton will join Charter from MSG Entertainment, where he has been the executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. In that role he has overseen all legal, transactional, litigation and regulatory matters and has been responsible for MSG Entertainment’s corporate and business legal affairs.
Before his time at MSG Entertainment, Haughton was senior vice president and general counsel at Samsung Electronics America from 2016 to December 2021.
Earlier in his career, Haughton spent almost 10 years at Cablevision Systems Corporation. In his last role at Cablevision as senior vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary, he gave legal counsel to the company’s board and senior executive management on corporate governance, public company reporting, corporate finance and major corporate transactions, including Cablevision’s sale to Altice USA in 2016. He began his legal career at Cravath Swaine & Moore.
Dykhouse joined Charter as vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary in 2006. He had previously been senior counsel and assistant secretary at CNH Global (now CNH Industrial). Before CNH, he was an attorney for Conseco (now CNO Financial Group) for almost a decade. His last position was senior vice president for legal.
