Insurance company CNA has recruited Jose Ramon Gonzalez as executive vice president and general counsel, reporting to CEO and chair Dino Robusto.
In his new role, Gonzalez heads up the company’s law department with responsibility for legal affairs, compliance, regulatory and government affairs, securities and litigation and legal consultation to CNA’s business operations.
He succeeds Scott Weber, who has left CNA to pursue opportunities to be closer to his family, according to a company spokesperson. Weber was promoted to become executive vice president and general counsel in 2017.
Gonzalez joined CNA from specialist insurer QBE North America, where he was chief legal officer and responsible for all legal, compliance, corporate governance and regulatory affairs issues relating to QBE’s US operations. During his career, he has also worked at Weil Gotshal & Manges, AIG and Torus, a Bermuda-based commercial insurance organization.
‘Jose has an impressive and expansive background in insurance law with more than two decades of in-house and private practice experience for a diverse set of global organizations,’ Robusto says in a statement.
CNA describes itself as one of the largest US commercial property and casualty insurance companies.
