Edward Jones has hired Keir Gumbs as general counsel to lead the firm’s legal and compliance teams. He reports to managing partner Penny Pennington.
Gumbs was previously chief legal officer for Broadridge Financial Solutions. In that role, he oversaw the company’s legal, compliance and physical security teams. He also co-led Broadridge’s regulatory and government affairs activities and was the primary legal adviser to senior management and the board on all legal and regulatory aspects of the company’s business strategy.
In addition, Gumbs was an executive member of Broadridge’s ESG committee and its executive diversity council and a member of the board for Broadridge’s political action committee, among other things.
Before joining Broadridge, Gumbs spent three years as vice president, deputy general counsel and deputy corporate secretary at Uber. Before that he was a partner and co-chair of the securities practice at Covington & Burling. Before moving in-house, Gumbs spent six years with the SEC, including as counsel to commissioner Roel Campos, special counsel in the office of chief counsel and staff attorney in the SEC’s division of corporation finance.Â
Gumbs is also board chair at the Society for Corporate Governance. He spoke on Governance Intelligence’s Governance Matters podcast earlier this year about some of the opportunities and concerns artificial intelligence raises for the profession and the society’s work.
