NYSE-listed Elanco Animal Health has recruited Marcela Kirberger as general counsel and corporate secretary.
Kirberger will join Elanco’s executive committee at the company’s Greenfield, Indiana headquarters on June 22. She is moving to Elanco from Roche Diagnostics where she has been general counsel and corporate secretary in the company’s North American headquarters overseeing legal matters regarding compliance, litigation, legal regulatory risk, privacy, operations and labor and employment. As a member of the company’s leadership team she was also part of Roche Diagnostics’ Covid-19 crisis management efforts.
Before Roche in 2019, Kirberger spent five years at Germany-based Leica Microsystems and Sandoz International in roles including global general counsel, chief compliance officer and global head of legal for the Sandoz Biopharmaceuticals business unit. She has also spent eight years in a number of US and regional legal roles within different Novartis-owned companies.
Kirberger began her career as a securities lawyer at Lowenstein Sandler, where she advised clients in securities class actions and shareholder litigation.
She has served as a board member of Indianapolis-based BioCrossroads for nearly two years alongside 20 public and private sector board members with the aim of aiding investments in biotech start-ups, building growth companies and promoting technology and life sciences education in Indiana.
Michael-Bryant Hicks, who was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Elanco, joined home healthcare equipment provider Apria earlier this year with the same titles.
‘Marcela is a clear fit for Elanco, with the right mix of executive leadership experiences at US and Germany-based companies,’ president and CEO Jeff Simmons says in a statement. ‘Her wide-ranging expertise in regulated pharma and over-the-counter [products] in the human health sector complements our experienced animal health executive team, continuing to strengthen the management of key functional areas, such as legal.’
