NYSE-listed Elanco Animal Health has promoted Shiv O’Neill to become executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
In her new role, O’Neill is responsible for the global strategy and operations of the company’s legal team, ethics & compliance organization and ESG efforts.
Most recently, she was vice president and deputy general counsel for the Americas at Elanco. In that position she led the strategy and operations of Elanco’s commercial and regulatory legal team in the Americas and provided strategic advice and counsel to company leaders in its US farm animal, US pet health and international businesses.
Before joining Elanco in 2021, O’Neill was senior counsel at Cummins, where she oversaw global litigation, product safety, crisis management, internal investigations and regulatory compliance matters. According to her LinkedIn profile, she previously spent 14 years at law firm Faegre Drinker, most recently as a partner.
O’Neill succeeds Marcela Kirberger, who became general counsel and corporate secretary of Elanco in 2021. Kirberger became chief legal affairs officer of 3M’s healthcare business group in November 2023. The firm plans to spin off that business as the newly independent healthcare company Solventum Corporation, at which point Kirberger will become Solventum’s chief legal affairs officer, an SEC filing states. The transaction is expected to take place on April 1, according to the company.
Jeff Simmons, president and CEO of Elanco, says in a statement: ‘Shiv’s ability to deliver strategic value to Elanco in the short term serving as our interim general counsel combined with her robust experience made it clear she was the right person for this role.
‘Her deep understanding of Elanco’s legal operations, coupled with her broad experience in regulatory compliance, product safety and transactional matters equips her to provide valuable leadership counsel to support the company’s strong operational integrity and current and long-term growth objectives.’
