Houston-based Flotek Industries has hired Nick Bigney as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
In his new role, Bigney leads the NYSE-listed company’s legal strategy, securities filings, corporate governance, compliance and risk assessment programs, dispute resolution and litigation and transactional matters. He is based in Houston and reports to Flotek CEO, president and chair John Gibson, who joined the company last month. The company has not had an internal general counsel for at least the past 20 years, according to a spokesperson.
Flotek produces reservoir-focused chemistry technologies for oil and gas clients. Bigney previously worked as general counsel and secretary at Oiltanking North America. As such, he oversaw areas including corporate governance, compliance, M&A, commercial contracts and joint ventures, and developed corporate and functional policies, according to Flotek.
Before that, he worked for eight years at Nabors Industries on corporate financing and securities, M&A, complex transactions and corporate governance matters. Bigney started his legal career at Milbank before joining Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom’s energy and infrastructure projects group.
‘We are excited to have Nick join the executive team at Flotek. He brings deep industry experience with broad capabilities across a spectrum of legal and corporate issues,’ Gibson says in a statement. ‘Nick is my first hire at Flotek, which marks a significant pivot for the company to bring strategic resources in-house that will not only help us rationalize external spend, but also help Flotek become a more effective organization.
‘I am confident his contributions will enable the company to deliver value to our shareholders through streamlined resourcing and decision making, as well as more effective risk assessment and mitigation.’
