Michael Houston is rejoining NYSE-listed Tejon Ranch Company as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective August 21.
Houston previously held those positions at the company from 2016 until 2021. He left Tejon Ranch in 2021 to join the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) where he was chief counsel and director of legal services for the metropolitan planning agency, which represents six counties, 191 cities and nearly 19 mn residents in the region.
Before his initial spell at Tejon Ranch, Houston was city attorney for the City of Anaheim. According to SCAG, he was instrumental in reshaping the city’s electoral system as it moved from an at-large system to election of council members by district. He has extensive experience in corporate governance, municipal/public agency law, real estate and economic development, land use and environmental matters.
Tejon Ranch is a diversified real estate development and agribusiness company whose principal asset is its 270,000-acre land holding located roughly 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 25 miles south of Bakersfield, California.
Houston says in a statement: ‘I am extremely excited to rejoin my former colleagues and resume my work at the Tejon Ranch Company. The company has made tremendous progress in its real estate entitlement, development and environmental efforts and is well positioned for significant growth in the future.’
Gregory Bielli, president and CEO of Tejon Ranch, says in announcing the move: ‘We are very excited to welcome Michael Houston back to our executive management team. He made significant contributions in the almost five years he was with us previously. We’re confident he will continue to further our company’s mission for both our shareholders and the communities we are so proud to be involved with in creating housing, environmental advancements and employment efforts for Californians.’
