Elisa Garcia, executive vice president, chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary of Macy’s, has informed the company that she plans to retire on October 6, 2023, according to an SEC filing.
Garcia joined Macy’s in 2016 as CLO. She also oversees government affairs for the retail company. She was previously at Office Depot, which she joined in 2007 as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, before becoming CLO in 2013. Before her time at Office Depot, she was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Domino’s Pizza.
Earlier in her legal career, Garcia was regional counsel for Latin America with Philip Morris International and international and corporate counsel at GAF Materials Corporation. Before moving in-house she was a corporate finance associate with Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
A company spokesperson says in a statement: ‘After 38 years of practicing law, and nearly seven years serving as legal adviser to senior management and the Macy’s board of directors, our [CLO] and board secretary, Elisa Garcia, has made the decision to retire in October… An external search is underway and we expect to have a new [CLO] in place in October upon Elisa’s retirement. We congratulate Elisa and thank her for her service.’
