Rob Leinwand has been with the Beaverton, Oregon-based company since 2004

Nike has named Rob Leinwand as its next executive vice president and chief legal officer (CLO).

Leinwand is at present vice president, deputy general counsel with the sportswear company, which he joined in 2004. In his new role he will report to Elliott Hill, president and CEO.

Leinwand will succeed Ann Miller, who will become executive vice president of global sports marketing at Nike. She in turn will succeed John Slusher, who is retiring from the company later this year after 26 years.

According to Leinwand’s LinkedIn profile, during his time with Nike he has held roles including vice president and chief litigation counsel and vice president for global litigation and employment counsel. Before joining the company, he was a shareholder at law firm Littler Mendelson.

Miller originally joined Nike in 2007 and before taking on her current role was vice president, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer. According to her LinkedIn profile, she left the company in 2012 to become general counsel at Converse before returning two years later. Earlier in her career she was an attorney with law firms Sullivan & Cromwell and Paul Hastings. She is a member of the board at Dutch Bros.

Slusher joined Nike in 1998 and held leadership positions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and North America before taking on the global sports marketing role in 2007.

Hill says in a statement: ‘[Leinwand] is an exceptional lawyer and a trusted adviser who has consistently demonstrated excellence in his work for Nike. I'm thrilled to welcome him to our senior leadership team, where his expertise will be invaluable in driving our business forward.’
