Nasdaq-listed Pliant Therapeutics has recruited Mike Ouimette as general counsel and corporate secretary.
Ouimette joins Pliant having most recently worked as vice president and assistant secretary of Portola Pharmaceuticals before its acquisition by Alexion Pharmaceuticals. He has also worked as senior corporate counsel and assistant secretary of Onyx Pharmaceuticals before its acquisition by Amgen.
Before joining Onyx, Ouimette was a partner in the San Francisco office of law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. In private practice his work concentrated on M&A, capital formation and other public company and regulatory matters.
South San Francisco-based Pliant is a clinical stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of fibrosis.
‘Mike is an accomplished biotech executive who brings deep legal and regulatory experience [and] deal-making expertise to Pliant,’ Pliant president and CEO Bernard Coulie says in a statement. ‘He shares our team’s passion to advance our lead programs into the clinic and transform the lives of people living with fibrotic diseases.’
