Glendale, California-based Public Storage has promoted Nathaniel Vitan to senior vice president, chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary.
Vitan succeeds Lily Hughes, who has resigned to pursue a CLO position at another public company ‘with strong consideration given to being geographically closer to her family,’ according to Public Storage. She will work with the company’s legal team until the end of next month to help with an orderly transition. Hughes is a board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Vitan joined Public Storage in June 2016 as vice president and chief counsel for litigation and operations. He was previously assistant general counsel for Altria Client Services and a trial practice and appellate litigation attorney at Latham & Watkin.
As of December 31, 2018, Public Storage had interests in 2,429 self-storage facilities located in 38 states with roughly 162 million net rentable square feet, according to the company.
‘Lily has been an outstanding partner, and we are grateful for her integrity and leadership and the many contributions she brought to Public Storage,’ says president and CEO Joe Russell in a statement. ‘The Public Storage team is keenly focused on succession planning across the company, and we are excited to welcome Nathan to his new role.’
